NEW JERSEY COMMITTEE ON CHARACTER
I was never on this Committee. The link above is to a disturbing account of how a local panel of the New Jersey Committee on Character tried to deny a young man admission to the bar due to his politics, by fraudulently distorting his testimony. The major perpetrator, Mary Maudsley, incredibly later served two terms as chair of the New Jersey Disciplinary Review Board, 2003-2005. Her partner in deception, Richard Fauntleroy, became chair of the New Jersey Committee on Character, 2004-2005. As of 2007 he was serving as Board Chair of the Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) Fund of New Jersey! No further comment seems necessary.

PUBLICATIONS
Look Before You Leap“, 6 Seton Hall Constitutional Law Journal 991 (1996), a discussion of the infamous decision of the Supreme Court of New Jersey compelling all Princeton University eating clubs to admit women. As of 2018, no such ruling applies to fraternities at Rutgers.
Medical Sue-veillance: A History and Critique of the Medical Monitoring Remedy in Toxic Tort Litigation, 45 Rutgers Law Rev. 227 (1993)
co-author with William P. Higgins, Jr., Discovery in Business Litigation in New Jersey State and Federal Courts, appearing in Commercial Litigation in New Jersey, Law Practice Handbooks, Inc., Springfield, Ill. (1996).
Review of Closed Chambers by Edward Lazarus in the Spring 1999 edition of “Professional Responsibility News”, a publication of the aforementioned Federalist Society. The review commends a former Supreme Court clerk for exposing occasional fraud and intellectual dishonesty committed by the nation’s highest judges.
I have written an as-yet unpublished biography of my namesake, Philadelphia philanthropist and publisher George William Childs (1829-1894). I will be posting some excerpts from the book soon.
OTHER
Major investor, Discovery Wines, 16 Avenue B, New York, New York 10009. We opened September 27, 2004 at another location and moved to our present address in 2011. Discovery Wines has received favorable reviews in New York Magazine, The New York Sun, Time Out New York, and in 2010 the Village Voice declared us the Best Wine Store in New York City! If you like wine, it’s worth a trip to the Lower East Side (two blocks from the Second Avenue stop on the F train).
Two no longer recent articles have described the many health benefits of wine consumption. The one from Food & Wine is simple and direct; the one from Nature is quite esoteric. Take your pick. One of the most useful articles about wine I have ever read was Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher’s final column for 2006 in the Wall Street Journal. Yes, I added the emphasis on “Find a good merchant”.

Chairman, Rumson (N.J.) Zoning Board of Adjustment, 1996-2002. Member, 1991-2002. The Hub cartoon linked to “Chairman” erroneously called it the Planning Board, and referred to the fact that I cast the sole vote in favor of the expansion of Holy Cross Church in Rumson, which happened anyway due to litigation, despite the Zoning Board vote.
